Check the Connections

Make sure to check the cable connections as loose cables can often result in printer offline issue. Check the ethernet cable in case of a network printer while for wireless printer check the router connection. If the ethernet cable is damaged make sure to replace it. 

Manually Set the Printer to Online

⦁ Go to the Start and then Select Control Panel to choose Devices and Printers option.

⦁ Then right-click the printer that you want to set online. Now select 'see what's printing'. 

⦁ Now select the printer from the menu on the top.

⦁ Then select the 'use printer online' option. 


Clear the Pending Print Jobs

Another reason the printer offline error may occur is because of pending print jobs.  To clear the pending print jobs follow the steps mentioned in the previous point.

⦁ Right-click on 'see what's printing' and then cancel and pending print job. 

⦁ Once the print jobs are removed make sure to select the option 'use printer online'. 


Try Reinstalling the Printer

⦁ Open the Control Panel and then Right-click on Devices and Printer and then select the option 'Remove Device'.

⦁ Once the printer is removed you can reinstall the printer by selecting the 'Add Printer' option under Devices and Printer.


Restarting the Printer Spooler Service

If the solutions mentioned above are unable to fix the printer offline error then you need to restart the printer spooler to fix the problem. Here is what you need to do.

⦁ Press Windows + R to run the program. Then press enter.

⦁ Now a new window will open where you need to select print spooler and then right-click.  Then you can select the restart option. 

Now, check of the offline status is resolved or not.  If the problem persists then you can also seek help from printer technical support team as they have complete knowledge to guide you step by step in fixing the offline issue. 

Update the Drivers of the Printer

Outdated drivers are one of the most common reasons for offline error in the printer.  So, by updating the drivers you can change the offline status online. 

Here are the steps that you need to follow:

⦁ Make sure to install the drivers that are meant for your printer model. 

⦁ Download and install the printer drivers from an authentic site.

⦁ Once the drivers are installed the outdated drivers of the printers will be scanned.  Wait until the scanning is complete.
